Who should we know?

Help us find the people making, preserving, and reimagining the South.

The South has always been shaped by people who make things, preserve things, question things, and find new ways to carry good ideas forward.

Southern Sole is our ongoing series about the makers, artists, chefs, farmers, preservationists, craftspeople, and community builders leaving their mark on the South. Some are keeping traditions and skills alive. Others are rethinking what those traditions can become. Some are protecting places and stories that might otherwise disappear. And some are simply doing remarkable work that more people should know about.

They don’t need to be famous. They don’t need a big following. They just need to be doing work that matters.
